What is a protest?
A protest is also referred to as demonstration and it can be defined as a type of social movement which can be used by a group of aggrieved persons to publicly express an objection and dissatisfaction with a government law, process, policy, event or action.
On the 16th of June 1976, Black South African students organized a peaceful protest (Soweto uprising) against the apartheid regime's education policies, through which the South African government insisted that they should be taught in Afrikaans rather than in English.
However, these group of Black South African students were met with violence by the government and this caused the death of at least 176 students.
