According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards, when a drug company purchases a television ad, the company is required to describe potential side effects of the drug, or at least provide a phone number or web site address for additional information.
The FDA is responsible for protecting public heath by controlling and supervising how food and drugs are made and given out. Drugs are required to list side effects of use and how consumers can receive additional information. If they are not listed and the drugs are sold, they could get in a lot of trouble for not providing all required information to the consumer.
