Nicole used 3/8 of her ribbon to wrap a present. If she used 6 feet of ribbon for the present, how much ribbon did Nicole have at first? I cant even begin to figure out how to determine what the FIRST step is, please help

Here are the steps:

Let the length of the ribbon be x.

Take 6x over 8 (6x/8) which equals 6.

Then, take 3x/4 which also will be 6 in this case.

3x = 24

x = 24 over 3 (24/3)

x = 8.
