Okay so there are many different ways to solve this problem but an easier method I use is when there is one negative I just flip it. For example: instead of -0.3+1.7 is do 1.7-0.3. If you think about it this way it makes more sense- negatives are on the left side of the number line and positives are on the right, so if you have -0.3 find that on the number line and count 1.7 more to find the answer. The answer is 1.4
