According to social Darwinism society is ruled by the fittest. Carnegie argued that very wealthy men like him had a responsibility to use their wealth for the greater good of society. In the article he describes the responsibility of philanthropy by the new upper class of self-made rich.
Carnegie's views about the duty of wealthy men indicated social Darwinism because he believed that the wealthy in the society had to be in charge of taking over affairs in the society as well as taking care of those that are not wealthy.
The social Darwinism theory is the survival of the fittest theory. This theory has it that several characteristics that a person possesses would put him at an advantage over others.
Carnegie believed that those that were very wealthy had the responsibility of taking care of the less privileged in the society.
