A philanthropist is a person who performs charitable acts for the betterment of humanity. Philanthropy does not always involve money. For example, Dr. Bill Magee and Kathy Magee perform their philanthropy through their surgical procedures, not their wallets. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, however, performs its philanthropy through charitably giving of billions of dollars to organizations the help improve the health and education of millions of people around the world. The primary goals of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations are to improve education in the United States, improve the health of children in Africa, and fight poverty in the developing world
