John Steinbeck wrote some articles called "The Harvest Gypsies," for The SanFrancisco News. They were published in the newspaper from October 5 to 12, 1936. As the good writer he was, he portrayed the life of immigrants and the poor economic conditions they lived in while working in the farm fields growing crops. He followed the life of immigrants that worked in the region of Central Valley, California. He is careful to choose the right words that described the landscape, the language those people used, their customs, culture, and habits.

Steinbeck wrote the famous "The Grapes of Wrath" in 1939, a book that made him win the Pulitzer price in 1940.
