HELP!!!! An electrician cuts a 26 ft piece of wire into two pieces. One piece is two feet longer than the other. How long are the pieces?

Let 1 piece = X

The 2nd piece would be X + 2 feet

Add:

x +x+2 = 26 feet

2x +2 = 26 feet

Subtract 2 from each side:

2x = 24

Divide both sides by 2:

x = 24 / 2

X = 12


One piece is 12 feet the other piece is 14 feet.
