One example that shows that religion was important Momaday´s grandmother  was that she mentions that she belonged to the "the last culture to evolve in North America." This means that the last culture to evolve in America was the Kiowa, and this culture had their own religion. Obviously it was so important to her that she wanted Momaday to recieve it as her heritage in the Kiowa tribe.
