A mixture refers to the physical combination of two or more substances in which the identities are retained and are mixed in the form of solutions, suspensions and colloids.

- Distillation is the separating of the constituents of a liquid by boiling it and then condensing the vapor that results.
Are you seperating components in the mixture here? YES, Because you are collecting the vapor and isolating the solute from it.
- Decanting is allowing a mixture of solid and liquid or two immiscible liquids to settle and separate by gravity.
This one answers itself in the definition. Think of sand and water. They do not mix and so eventually the sand will settle to the bottom and the water will stay on top. Therefore this is also YES.
- Filtration is any of various mechanical, physical or biological operations that separate solids from fluids.
Think about how you would filter something using a funnel. You pour the mixture with the solids and liquid in and whatever is the size that can fit through will go through the funnel (the liquid or gas) and the solids will remain in the funnel. So YES this is also a separation.
- Stirring is the action of mixing things for a certain time.
This is the OPPOSITE of separating into components because you are making things mix together. Therefore this is the one that is not a technique to separate.
