B.Athens

As we can see in the image, from the sixth century BC, the city enters the Byzantine civilization, and Athens is no longer a village province. Before it had been only a small village with agricultarl activity, later when the Parthenon was transformed into a church around the 7th century. The city became a religious and cultural center. From the tenth to the twelfth century, Athens was to become much more important economically and military . Byzantines churches are built, a sign of prosperity and Byzantine expansion. As Athens was a place of conflict and war when Arabs tried in several ocasions to seize the city,  so Athens remained one of the strongest centers of Christianity in the late Roman and early Byzantine periods. The city was  a key cultural and intellectual center, lasting until the twelfth century.
