Chlorophyll is a pigment present in the chloroplasts of plants. Among different types of chlorophylls, plants contain chlorophyll a and b. These chlorophylls absorb light in the red and the blue regions of the visible light spectrum.

Due to slight difference in the side chain of the chlorophyll a and b show different absorption of visible light. Light with a wavelength of 460 nm (nano-meter) is most absorb by chlorophyll b and Light with a wavelength of 680 nm is most absorb by chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll absorbs very little light between wavelength 500 to 600 nm.
