On June 17, 1775, early in the Revolutionary War , the British defeated the Americans at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. Aside from their loss, the inexperienced colonial forces inflicted significant casualties against the enemy, and the battle provided them with an important confidence boost.
They wanted to control the harbor
The Battle of Bunker Hill started in the year 1775 on 17th June between the US and Britishers. Therefore, Britishers wanted to capture Bunker hill so that they could attack the US from it.
Britishers occupied Bunker hills where they defeated the United colonies. The hill was surrounded by the city of Boston, which gives control over the Boston Harbour.
The battle was won at high costs resulting in the loss of the soldiers with increased causality. However, it became beneficial for the United colonies and got more confidence in battling the war.
