Amusement parks were particularly popular during the Gilded Age. This was due to a combination of several factors. During this time period, people enjoyed more leisure time, as well as more disposable income than in the past. Moreover, amusement parks were built outside of major city centers, which gave people a way to "escape" their daily lives. Amusement parks remained extremely popular until after World War II. During the 50s, the development of suburbs, as well as the popularity of television led to the demise of most amusement parks.
