Respuesta :

I can help you with  question 1. For question 2,  I am not sure if it refers to the examples in quesion 1 or others.

The right answer is C), struggles with the emotions and behaviors related to following society. Eugène Ionesco describes his main character as a mediocre person who does not want to surrender to society. He uses words like” unshaven, with unkempt hair and creased clothes” to depict his carelessness for physical appearance. Berenger is an alcoholic and has no drive in life. He does not fight for anything. He has neglected himself and his life.

Yet, he comes out in the story as someone who sticks to the  hope of not giving up. Ionesco shows this by having him say : “Now I’ll never be a rhinoceros, never, never! “.Berenger, like a true hero, is the only  one willing to put up a fight  against the rhinoceros.

Answer:

1) A : adamantly and violently resists following society.

2) C :  romantic relationships

Explanation:

1) The main character in the play 'Rhinoceros' is a man called Berenger, a happy-go-lucky young man who does not attach importance to anything in life. To crown it off he was a drunkard.

Everyone in Berenger's community was transforming into Rhinoceros with Berenger witnessing the transformation of Jean into a rhinoceros before his very eyes.

Berenger was under pressure to conform with the societal norm by transforming into a rhinoceros himself but he blatantly refused choosing to maintain his own unique personality.

2) A motif is the central theme or message in a passage or text. It is the main idea behind the text

In 'Rhinoceros', the central theme was the conformation to societal norms of which Berenger refused to.

Even though Berenger was attracted to and loved Daisy, romantic relationships was not the central theme or motif in Rhinoceros.
