Ephemeral steam is a stream that flows only briefly during and following a period of rainfall in the immediate locality. It flows only in direct response to precipitation and receives almost no water from rivers or springs and no supply from the melting of ice . Because of these characteristics, these streams are only found where precipitation is scant and a moisture deficiency exists most of the time for example in arid and semiarid regions of the earth.
