Clara Barton was a very cooperative woman that founded a lot of free schools in New Jersey, formed and organized the Red Cross Society. She participated in a movement called abolitionism, which talked about to defend the rights of slaves. This strong movement caused the secession war in 1861, which separated the north and south states in confederates (south states) and unionists (north states); the Confederates were defenders of slavery and the unionists wanted to abolish the slavery. During this war, Clara helped the wounded soldiers and directed the search for missing soldiers. Due to there were many deaths, Clara helped to extend the International Red Cross and founded it in Washington with the purpose of tending of wounded people and war victims.
