A reader can know if a passage is written in third-person limited point of view by finding signal words. Some signal words that show the passage is written in 3rd-person limited pov are they, he, and she. 3rd person limited is a passage told following one certain character.
I hope that explains well enough and helps u understand!

3rd person limited point of view, means that the narrator only knows the thoughts and feelings of one character. To figure out if this is correct, first make sure that it is in 3rd person point of view. Look for words like them, they, he, she. If you see words like we, us, I and you, that means it is in a different point of view. If it is third person, try to figure out how much the narrator knows. For example, if a story read something like “Jason felt that he had hurt Sebastian’s feelings, so he apologized. Although Sebastian was hurt by what Jason said, he accepted his apology.” In this example, the narrator knows the feelings of more than one character, making it 3rd person omniscient. If the narrator only speaks about one persons thoughts in a story, it is indeed 3rd person limited. Hope this helps!
