A linking word is a word which shows a connection between clauses or sentences. 'However' and 'so' are linking words.
Linking words are both, individual words and sentences meant to point or show relationships between ideas, clauses or sentences. They are incredibly important to increase one's fluency in English since they allow us to write longer sentences. In general, they can be used to link 2 or more sentences or clauses. A clause is a sentence, phrase or grouping of words that contain a subject and a verb. Linking phrases or linking words have the ability to link, join or add ideas together to better show the contrast between them as well as the reason for something. They also serve the purpose of linking independent clauses to one another or to other dependent clauses or phrases
