Throughout the adventure on Helio's island he seeks revenge as stated in Oddysey's tale :  ''Father Zeus, and you other everlasting and blessed gods, punish the companions of Oddysseus, for they outrageously killed my cattle  (...) Unless these are made to give me just recompense for my cattle I will go down to Hades' and give my light to dead men'' Here we can clearly understand that Helio is unwilling to follow the pre established rules set by the gods unless they kill the men who murdered his cattle, meaning he is seeking to punish those who wronged him and is establishing his own rules positioning his own will above the gods'

Similarly, Polyphemus states '' (..)The Cyclopes do not concern themselves over Zeus, nor any of the rest of the blessed gods since we are far better than they are'' this sentence allows us to infer that this character also visualizes himself and his desires above the gods'.

Hope this helps :)
