In his speech delivered at Enfields, in 1941, Jonathan Edwards paints vivid descriptions of hell as a tool that will be used by God to destroy wicked people. Hell is shown to be willing and ready to devour sinners.
In his fifth point, he quotes Luke 11:12 to describe how the Devil is ever willing to devour sinners like a lion that seeks its prey.
Edwards said that it was God who was putting a restraint and that once he releases the restraint, the Devil will hungrily consume sinners in hell.
