c. Catholic Reformation
The Catholic Reformation reinforces
1) the notion that faith by itself without good deeds is void. Salvation cannot be found solely by faith. This was the dogma that Reformationist were in contradiction. The official stand of Rome was "faith without works is dead", referring to Epistle of James states.
2)To Catholics they rejected the protestant insignia "sola scriptura" (the notion that the Bible is the only source and there is no need for intermediation). It's all up to the individual and God.
3)To the contrary, the Catholic church insisted on referring to the use of Latin which was a lingua franca for the few literate and often used other books that were not in the Canons for preaching and educating the peoples. This books are known as apocryphal or extracanonical gospels (thobias, judith, macabeans, etc.)
4) To this, the devotion to the traditional works of mercy was to follow according to the Catholic dogmas. Not only did Catholic Reformationist made the church more present in everyday life, but they also went back to retake medieval practices.
