Take two points to find the slope
Let;s take (1, -3) and (-3, -1)
Point slope formula is
m = [tex] \frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1} [/tex]
or
y₂-y₁ = m×(x₂-x₁) Which is the same thing
m = [tex] \frac{-1-(-3)}{-3-1} [/tex]
= [tex] \frac{2}{-4} [/tex]
It can be simplified:
= [tex] -\frac{1}{2} [/tex]
Now we found the slope
Same formula:
y₂-y₁ = m × (x₂-x₁)
Substitute the point only (1, -3)
y₂-(-3) = [tex] -\frac{1}{2} [/tex] × (x₂-1)
y₂ + 3 = [tex] -\frac{1}{2} [/tex] × (x₂ - 1) (minus minus = plus)
The last option is the answer
