A huge number of immigrants came to California in the 1840s and 1850s. Many of these people came from other parts of the United States as part of the Gold Rush in 1849 (that's where we get the term 49ers). Many, many others came from China and East Asia to do difficult manual labor jobs. The Chinese in particular experienced terrible racism and oppression. The U.S. even passed a law called the Chinese Exclusion Act, which was designed to keep Chinese people out of the country.
Meanwhile, the huge influx of immigrants of all kinds tended to have very negative effects on Native American populations, who often lost their lands as new arrivals placed new pressures on land resources throughout the state.

Answer:
The majority of settlers after the cession included white Americans, African American slaves from the South, free African Americans, and Chinese. White Americans sought gold in California, African American slaves sought freedom, and Chinese pupulations sought gold in California, but ended up working in the mines. Chinese remained in California, despite poor treatment by white settlers, and ended up working on railroads, draining swamplands and digging irrigation systems. They become part of a growing Asian population as immigrants came to California from different parts of Asia. African Americans went to California for the gold rush, too, but they were denied certain rights, such as the right to testify against whites in court. After the cessions, the established traditions of Mexicans and Indians were threatened by the influence of the growing number of settlers and immigrants. They lost their land, some were murdered, many were unable to earn a living, and even more died from starvation and diseases. The Indian population decreased by more than 80 percent from 1850 to the 1870s.
