Help please! Cats can be striped, which is dominant to being solid. They can also have pointed (dominant) or round (recessive) claws. If a heterozygous striped cat with rounded claws mates with a solid cat with homozygous pointed claws, what will their offspring be?

Respuesta :

If the gene for the color is A then:

Striped cat has the genotype AA (dominant homozygous) or Aa (heterozygous)

Solid cat has aa (recessive homozygous) genotype .

If the gene for the claws is B then:

Pointed claws genotypes are: BB (dominant homozygous) and Bb (heterozygous)

Cats with rounded claws have bb (recessive homozygous) genotype.

If we cross heterozygous striped cat with rounded claws with a solid cat with homozygous pointed claws:

P: Aabb  x  aaBB

F1: half of the offspring will be double heterozygous (striped cat with pointed claws)

Other half of the offspring are solid cats with pointed claws.
