The "Gaspee Attack", which occurred in Rhode Island during 1772, was one of the first major events that would lead to the American Revolutionary War. The attack was led by wealthy residents of Rhode Island as a protest for the current structure of power that existed between Rhode Island and the English.
Great Britain was determined to identify the group of supposed attackers and take them to England in order for them to face trial. The colonists thought this was an unfair and arbitrary action and assembled the first Continental Congress in order to protect colonial interests.
