Respuesta :
The red, yellow, and green wavelengths of sunlight are absorbed by water molecules in the ocean. When sunlight hits the ocean, some of the light is reflected back directly but most of it penetrates the ocean surface and interacts with the water molecules that it encounters.
It is reflecting blue light.
What makes the sea blue?
- The ocean functions as a filter for sunlight.
- Water absorbs colors in the red portion of the light spectrum, which is why the ocean looks blue. This acts as a filter, leaving the blue portion of the light spectrum for us to see.
- Depending on how light reflects off of the floating sediments and other particles in the water, the ocean may also appear green, red, or in other colors.
- However, the majority of the ocean is entirely dark. There is very little light that can travel deeper than 656 feet, and none can travel farther than 3,280 feet.
