Over the course of his Presidency, Ronald Reagan abandoned the policy of detente. Instead he took a list of measures that could end the Cold War, the US outspend the Soviet Union on weapons, the Soviets had to make food shortage even worse to buy more weapons and make the crisis even bigger which eventually led to the end of the Soviet Union.
