A. Everyone needs human companionship.

Mary is all by herself when she is in India except for her servants, but she doesn't truly see them as friends and companions. Then when she moves to Misselthwaite Manor, she is alone there as she is told to stay in only two of the rooms. Mr. Craven leads a solitary lifestyle after the death of his wife. Colin is kept in a very isolated situation as well because of his health issues. At the end the story all of these characters begin to realize the importance of being with others. It is shown specifically in this scene because Mary is talking to a robin and not with others.
