Some of the major parallels Krakauer draws are that McCandless was not the only one to die in Alaska. He also mentions Carl McCunn, a man from Texas who was working in an Alaskan pipeline. They went for different reasons, McCandless wanted adventure and he wanted to be on his own, on the other side, McCunn wanted to see the beauty of the place. Both men died Alaska.
For Krakauer, they had similarities, they were confident in their decisions until the end.
Answer:
Some of the major parallels he draws are the fact that McCandless was not the only person to come to the Alaskan wilderness and die. Krakauer talks about a man named Carl McCunn who was from Texas and went up to Alaska to work on the pipeline. While McCandless went out to be alone and for the adventure and didn’t plan on help from anyone, McCunn went out to capture the beauty. He had every intention of leaving, but forgot to arrange it. Both men met their fate in the Alaskan wilderness but McCunn took his own life because the pain was just too much to bare. I think that a reason that Krakauer put McCunn into the book was because both he and Chris were very confident in their plans. Chris thought he would walk out Justas he had walked in and McCunn figured someone would come and help him. This shows that no matter how prepared you think you are there is always something that could go wrong and unfortunately both met their match in Alaska.
