and here is why: If cut, stems that were still attached to their parent plant before cutting may form roots from where they were in contact with a rooting medium. Some plants are very particular about what type a of cutting will root, but most are decently flexible. One thing to remember is that when you are using the cutting method, make sure to just cut off a piece of leaf or stem and then let it dry. The trick to getting this to work is to make sure to keep it totally dry otherwise the cutting won't feel the need to grow roots.
