After segregation was declared unconstitutional, a huge variety of reactions all over the country ensued. The topic was particularly controversial in the South. States like Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama were reluctant to accept this change. Georgia threatened to pull state funding from schools that desegregated. Georgia governor Marvin Griffin introduced a "massive resistance" package of legislation in order to resist integration. However, the change was inevitable and desegregation eventually took place all over the country.
