There was the Black Death or Bubonic Plague that caused the death of
millions of people during this time.
Then there was the transfer of the Papal Seat from Rome to Avignon,
France that undermined the authority of the Pope and also the corrupt practices
of the clergy that set the stage for the Reformation.
