The process is not sustainable because by polluting the streams and freshwater lakes can badly cripple whole ecosystems by killing certain type of fish or anything that lives in the waste. So a more efficient process in my opinion would probably be to use the waste as a compost of some sort because fish waste has a bunch on nitrates in it which in fact would be really good to put in soil or even water plants with.
