1- Why were Americans so concerned about Communism in the United States during the 1950s?

Communism, in the form of the Soviet Union-rival country which had proven itself a viable militry threat through its nuclear weapons program- as well as an ideology itself instilled fear in Americans, especially since the US has always promoted democracy and capitalism; people feared communism would infect the country and persuade citizens to turn. People within the US also feared in the sense that someone could accuse them of sympathizing with communism, and since the fear of communism was so rampant, little evidence was needed to seem guilty.

2: What was happenning in places like China and the Soviet Union?

The Sino-Soviet's split ocurred. It was the breaking of political relations between  the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Union of Soviet Socialist  Republics (USSR), caused by doctrinal divergences that arose from their different interpretations and practical applications of Marxism-Leninism, as influenced by their respective geopolitics during the Cold War.

In the late 1950s and 1960s, Sino-Soviet debates about the interpretation of Orthodox Marxism became specific disputes about the Soviet Union's policies of national de-Stalinization and international peaceful coexistence with the Western world.
