Do you think the hearings of the House Un-American Activities Commitee (HUAC) and the televised hearings of Senator McCarthy violated citizens' civil liberties under the First Amendment (which protects citizens' right to free speech and free association)?
Well, I think that the activities of the HUAC obviously violated American citizens First Amendment rights as there is no way being a communist should be illegal.
But it also probably infringed upon the 5th amendment rights as well.
