If the texture is coarser, then the surfaces will tend to "catch" more as they try to move. Coarser texture means more friction; finer texture means less.
Different textures can make friction stronger, or make it weaker. If you have a slippery texture, friction will be weaker. If you have a rough and firm texture, friction will be stronger. On a rough texture the sliding force will be less (harder to slide), and on a slippery texture the sliding force will be more (easier to slide).
