Superheart
Marion Shore

Like Superman with all his super powers,
Cruising at lightning speed around the Earth,
Or leaping from Metropolis’s towers,
Or soaring toward his fortress in the north,
His mighty prowess never falling victim
To any weapon save for (strangely enough)
A fragment of his long-lost planet Krypton,
Wounded by what he could not help but love,
So I too had lately come to feel
Invulnerable, the enemy subdued,
The bullets bouncing off my heart of steel,
Safe in its artic fortress of solitude,
Or rising up in solitary flight—
And then you came along: my kryptonite.

Marion Shore has won the Nemerov sonnet excellence award as well as the Richard Wilbur prize for her poetry work Sand Castle (2011), and further discussion can be defined as follows:

  • The poetry collection portrays love as a perilous force that weakens and exposes the person's life.
  • This notion is depicted is less subjectively in "Superheat" and rather than repetition.
  • It utilizes allusion, illustrating the effects of love on those with allusions toward what kryptonite does to Superman.

Therefore, the answer is "Choice A".
