Why are plants roots important to prevent erosion?

A. Plant roots anchor the soil in place.
B. Plant roots build a barrier, preventing wind or rain from reaching soil.
C. Plant roots absorb the water that would otherwise wash away the soil.

Quite sure it's not B or D and sources online are either saying it's A or C.
