Project: Product Specification
Assignment Introduction:
A potato is a potato is a potato—right? It depends on if you are purchasing potatoes to use for McDonald's fries, an upscale, independent steakhouse baked potato, or a school lunch program beef stew. There are different varieties of potato in different sizes, from different places. Some are best boiled, some baked, and some fried. Some are dainty, some are hearty. They all have different product specifications for use by purchasing agents, receiving clerks, and suppliers.
Assignment Directions:
Write a product specification for potatoes for three different fictional restaurants. You can model the restaurants after known operations with which you are familiar. However, the three should be different types of operations and have different types of "potato" menu items for which you are writing the potato product specifications. The potato can be the star of a menu item, or a supporting character, or even a member of the chorus.
You can find examples of food product spec sheet formats online. You may modify a sheet found online for your use, or develop your own product specification sheets from scratch. When you choose the three food services and write up your potato product specification for each, be sure to take into account:
type of guest or clientele
theme/cuisine
menu price
preparation area storage space
equipment used in preparation
employee skill levels
