Why is this a feature?

  • In the book, we can see that there is great curiosity and a great fear of people towards science.
  • while the characters are amazed at what science can do, they feel fearful.
  • The characters question science, involve it in religious matters, and many turn against it, but none of this can stop it from becoming stronger and stronger in social life.

Victorian people had very similar experiences with the science of their day. Amid so many discoveries and scientific advances, Victorians were amazed at science, but at the same time, they were afraid and fearful of its results.
