The prefrontal cortex affects decision making, planning, and thinking about the future. The development of the teenage brain is extremely important especially because of all the exposure to drugs and drinking. The brain is sensitive during the teenage years because of it’s growth and change. This is why making decisions and thinking about the future comes up much more with age and is more difficult.
The effect that can be attributed to development of the prefrontal cortex as regards the teenage behavior are;
They develop more control over impulses.
They have better ability to think and make decisions.
They can make judgments better.
- In Teenagers, as the prefrontal cortex matures the way they think changes, their ability to make better choices increases.
- At this stage, the can make better judgement and make a better decisions and have control on impulse.
Therefore, prefrontal cortex helps the teenager to have a better decision making ability.
