The mesozoic is but one of the eras on the geologic timescale. This era spanned between 252 - 66million years ago.
It is bounded by two major mass extinction events. The Permian- Triassic extinction wiped about 90% of a life on earth. The other extinction is the Cretaceous-Paleogene which resulted in the demise of the dinosaurs.
During the mesozoic, the continents also formed from pangea and they all drifted to their present day position.
There are 3 periods in the mesozoic era:
Triassic - Jurassic - Cretaceous.
The mesozoic is known as the age of reptiles and dinosaurs.
The first flowering plants came towards the end of the era. The era was intially dominated by conifers.
This is also the age of the first birds.
