Instead, they watch extreme quantities of television on the wall set, drive very fast, and listen to the radio on the "Seashell Radio" sets attached to their ears.

When Mildred welcomed the guests who were relaxing together in front of the TV with her, Guy Montag came to recite poems to Mildred's two friends, Mrs. Bowles and Mrs. Phelps has a different reaction. Clara Phelps shed tears of the compilation of Montag reading poetry. Montag also did not know why Mrs. Phelps cried, but the crying did not stop. While the other Mildred's friend Mrs. Bowles tried to calm Mrs. Phelps while scolding Montag. She thought that his poem had made Phelps cry.

Then Mildred tried to calm them down and asked them to just watch tv so that everything became cheerful again. But her guests refused and chose to leave their homes. Mildred sad went to the bedroom and took sleeping pills.
