How did the lab activities help you answer the lesson
question: What factors affect the power of a river to
cause erosion? What conclusions can you make from
your observations?

Respuesta :

The lab allowed me to model and observe stream and river processes. Using a virtual model, I compared low and high velocity streams or rivers, low and high gradient streams or rivers, and low and high volume streams or rivers. I found that higher velocity streams or rivers can cause more erosion, as do higher gradient and higher volume streams or rivers. Not only did these factors move more small sediment, they also moved larger pieces of sediment.

A rivers slope, volume of flow, and the shape of its stream bed are the factors affect the power of a river to  cause erosion.

All the above factors contributes in the speed of river flows and the concentration of sediment it can erode. A fast-flowing river carries more and larger particles of sediment as compared to slow flowing river because its speed detached the sediment from the soil and take it with it.

A sloppy river, more volume of flow causes more erosion of the sediments as compared to less sloppy and less volume of flow so we can conclude that rivers slope, volume of flow, and the shape of its stream bed are the factors that affect the power of a river.
