Answer: My experience would be different than the early explorers. The lands west of the Mississippi have actual roads and highways now. Back then, it was all unknown territory and hadn't really been discovered yet. It was a wild place. Today, it's all known territory. It could be similar because I could still explore and meet new people and new places.
