Actually there are two reasons why space is black
- The light of these objects like the sun and stars are not to strong enough to light the whole space hence just covering a small area.hence parts of space appear black.imagine you carrying a touch or led light and are in a dark place, the light from the torch or led light will just illuminate that area you are in but not the whole place and and make the place to be lit.it depends on the intensity of the light produced to make the whole are lit.this is same to the stars and the sun, they only illuminate the area are they are and since they are small compared to the universe the only illuminate a small area hence parts of space appear black.
- Here on earth it appears to have alot of light because there are things to reflect the light into our eyes;the atmosphere, the floor, objects and etc reflect light into our eyes.but in space there are no such things, so the light is not reflected into our eyes hence again space appearing black
