One way to find the answer to this question would be to use a bar model.
Draw a long rectangle and label it, "12".
Then, cut the bar into 3 pieces.
Color in one of the boxes.
This represents the one-third of peanut butter cookies.
Since you split 12 into 3 pieces, divide 12 by 3.
You'll get the answer 4.
That means out of the 12 pack of cookies, 4 of them are peanut butter.
