I Heard a Bird Sing

By Oliver Herford

I heard a bird sing

In the dark of December.

A magical thing

And sweet to remember.

"We are nearer to Spring

Than we were in September,”

I heard a bird sing

In the dark of December.

Answer:

Alliteration.

Explanation:

I know this is VERY late, but just in case any other person comes to this page for an answer, here it is. Basically, Dickinson's poem repeated letters in each line. For example, Bold and Bailiffs, Brittle and Brief, Bough and Brigadier, Much and mien and March. Herford's poem said Bird sing. When putting an example for alliteration, the most common is 'Sweet Birds Sing'. Thus leading me to belive that the answer is choice A, alliteration.
