Describe the effect of severe malnutrition or starvation on the exchange of materials at the capillary bed

Respuesta :

Answer:

In starvation or malnutrion capillaries bed exchange material abnormally. Interstitial fluid loose out from the capillaries to the surrounding tissues due change in the osmotic pressure causing swelling of body parts.

Explanation:

Due to pressure of blood in capillaries, the blood hydrostatic pressure is greater than the interstitial fluid hydrostatic pressure which allows to promote a net flow of the fluid from blood vessels into interstitium. However, because the large plasma proteins cannot cross through capillary walls easily, their effect on osmotic pressure of capillary interiors will to some extent balance tendency for the fluid to leak from capillaries.

In conditions of In starvation or malnutrion, plasma proteins are reduced and the blood pressure is significantly increased which causes a change in the net filtration pressure and increase in the fluid movement across capillary which results in the excess fluid build-up in tissues.
